Product Introduction

Titanium felt for hydrogen production is the core porous transport layer (PTL) material of PEM water electrolyzers - high porosity, low resistance and resistant to oxygen/hydrogen evolution corrosion, in 0.25-1.0 mm thickness and 50-80% porosity for PEM and AEM stacks.

Detailed Overview

01 Product Overview

The anode of a PEM electrolyzer operates at high potential in a strongly oxidizing oxygen-rich environment where ordinary porous materials corrode rapidly. Sintered from pure titanium fiber, the felt stays stable at high potential; its 3D interconnected pores quickly remove oxygen generated at the membrane, distribute water uniformly and collect current evenly - a key component for electrolyzer efficiency and lifetime.

02 Performance & Mechanism

Sintered titanium fiber felt gas diffusion layer (GDL/PTL) for PEM water electrolysis. The base material is ≥99.5% industrial pure titanium fiber, surface passivated for long-term service in acidic (sulfuric acid / PFSA) high-potential, high-humidity environments without oxidation or powdering. Porosity 50-70% with gradient options; optional MPL layer (100-200 μm pores) and Pt coating (0.2-0.5 μm) bring the area resistance down to ≤5 mΩ·cm2 - ensuring sufficient electrolyte wetting while venting H2/O2 quickly, reducing ohmic and mass-transport polarization.

03 Advantages

  • Pure titanium fiber, resistant to high-potential oxygen evolution; 2. 50-80% porosity for fast bubble detachment; 3. Low contact resistance reduces cell voltage and energy use; 4. 0.25-1.0 mm thickness with good compression recovery; 5. Pt/Ir noble-metal coating options for further savings.

04 Applications

For PEM electrolyzer anode/cathode PTLs, AEM stacks, laboratory and industrial electrolyzers and hydrogen refueling equipment. Custom discs, squares and coatings to stack drawings.
